Laps and split times

Start the stopwatch and record a lap to build your comparison. The total keeps running when you mark a lap.

Total, lap and split time: what is the difference?

Total time counts the whole active session. Lap time measures the segment since the previous mark. Each row also records the cumulative split time when you pressed Record lap. Pause freezes both; Resume continues the same lap.

For a presentation, mark the introduction, main section and questions. For repeated exercises or tasks, compare completed laps of the same type; the average of unrelated stages may not be useful.

Timing method and browser limits

Elapsed time comes from the browser’s monotonic clock, not a count of screen updates. Hundredths are a display format, not certified measurement accuracy. Delayed updates catch up when the tab runs again. Up to 100 hours and 500 laps; CSV includes numeric milliseconds for calculations.

Keep the device awake: some browsers do not advance the monotonic clock during system sleep. A clock discrepancy triggers a warning; it cannot reliably distinguish sleep from a manual clock change. Reloading, closing the page or switching language starts a new session.
